The blue jeans did not have the admiration of everyone at the beginning. They were initially used as working clothes for sailors, miners and cowboys. Their history begins now more than 500 years in Italy, in Genoa. Blue-jeans comes from the French “blue of Genes” syntagm, “Genoese Blue”, a fabric of wool and cotton. The denim fabric, from which jeans are made, appears in France in the late 16th century. Here was used a fabric called “Serge de Nîmes”, meaning “cloth in the city of Nîmes”. This material came from a mistake, the French want to imitate the serge, an Italian material. The difference between them is that the denim is weaved from a colored and white thread, and jeans of two threads of the same color.

Levi Strauss, a Jewish merchant from Germany, arrived in New York in 1847, where his stepbrother was doing business with fabrics and clothes. Jacob Davis, a Jewish tailor in Latvia, was one of Levi Strauss’s collaborators. He added in 1872 some metal targets to the pockets of these pants for more resistance. Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis patented their product on May 20, 1873. This is the official date of birth of jeans pants.

Blues have become popular among young people since the 1950s, when James Dean, Marlon Brando and Elvis Presley promoted this type of clothing.

Blues have become one of the most important symbols of the pop and hippy subculture since the 1960s. This is the time when the jeans have undergone the most changes: flawed, painted or embroidered, torn, or having flower additions, colored ribbons or anti-strike messages.

Specialists indicate Japan as the country with the best denim quality, despite the fact that demand for denim is much lower than in other parts of the world. Globally, figures say that 39% of jeans production is being bought in the US, while only 10% in Japan and Korea.

The denim is so loved that it was also used to make other pieces of clothing. Whether we are talking about skirts, dresses or jackets, boots or bags, belts or other accessories, we must admit that the denim has entered our hearts quickly and will remain there forever!
