I recently joined the Spring SuperBlog 2019 competition and accepted the first challenge: write about my first vacation. Of course, my first vacation was when I was less than 2 years old, so I was too small to remember something, but I will never forget my first vacation in Nessebar!
Nessebar, is a town situated on a small peninsula in Bulgaria, about 120 km from Balchik, with a huge tourist potential.
History, architecture, beauty and magic. You will find them all in Nessebar! Whether you prefer to discover the city when you go through the streets, or relax at the beach, in Nessebar you will find everything you want!
Nessebar is one of the oldest cities in Europe and was built on the ancient ruins of Mesambria. From the old city, only 2-thirds remain, the rest was swallowed by the sea. You can still see the remnants of the old walls, about 80 meters away from the seashore.
For me, this holiday was magical! The architecture of the white houses with a red roof bathed in sunlight, the narrow and paved streets that offer a romantic atmosphere, fruit-filled figs and seagulls, the salty sea air and the cool breeze all will paint in vivid colors, your perfect vacation ! The fishing boats and trawls will make you sing “In a fishing village” (a Romanian song) and will return you to the simplicity and beauty of the old times. Nothing will erase this memory from my heart, this dream with the smell of salt.
Nessebar was included in the UNESCO heritage, and the local authorities redeveloped the old buildings with wooden floors typical of Greek and Bulgarian fishermen from the past centuries. The city is full of history and you will have plenty of places to visit. Nessebar is considered the city with the most churches in the world, in terms of number of inhabitants. The churches of St. Paraschiva (13th century), St. Todor (14th century), the Holy Archangels Michael and Gravril (14th century), St. John (XIVth century), St. Basil (14th century), St. Elijah or the Church of the Holy Virgin are just a few monuments that have taken the city to UNESCO’s patrimony, and which gather a number of tourists a few times more than their own inhabitants. Discover the past of the city by visiting the Byzantine Baths Complex, the Ethnographic Museum and the Archeology Museum. Vacations are a great opportunity to accumulate a lot of new knowledge.
The beach of Nessebar is considered to be one of the best on the whole Bulgarian seaside. It is said that here you will find the beach with the finest sand of the Black Sea. Thanks to the southern position, the climate is more favorable to tourism, so the season lasts until the end of September, maybe even early October.
