San Marino is considered the oldest republic and one of the smallest states in the world. The Republic was founded on September 3, 301, when Saint Marino, a native of Dalmatia, settled along with a small Christian community on Mount Titano.

How do you get to San Marino?
Well, it’s pretty simple. First of all, San Marino has open borders. So you will not need a passport or other papers. Choose as the starting point the city of Rimini. It is near the republic and you will find solutions to reach quickly in the historic center. You can take the taxi or you can choose a cheaper option by traveling by bus. Away from the train station, you will find 3 bus stops. Go to the last one! You can buy tickets directly from the bus or you can buy them from the train station, from the information desk. Now that you know how to get there, let me take you a little, through the streets of the historical center and present you the most important sights!
The historic center is quite small, so you have time to visit it all without losing any street!
First you have to visit the three towers. You will come from one tower to another following a paved road that crosses the forest of the mountain ridge. From place to place, you will have belvedere points. I assure you that the view is gorgeous. Moreover, the route is lit at night, so you can admire the beauty of this place at any time.
Tourist spots:
First Tower (Rocca or Guaita): First tower built in the 11th century and subsewuently renovated. Left of entrance is situated the fortress chapel, consacrated to Saint Barbara.
Second Tower (Cesta or Fratta): Second tower, dating back to the 13th century. It is situated on the highest peack of Mount Titano (750 m.a.s.l.). The tower lodges the Museum of Ancient Weapons which dates back to the 13th-18th century.
Public Palace: – The public palace is the seat of san marino supreme institution. The council roomcan be visited only when no sittings of the Great and General Council (Parliament) take place. The Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place in the summer time.
State Museum – Piazza Titano – Palazzo Pergami: – It gathers archaeological and artistic artefacts related to the legend of the founder Saint, the history of the Republic and its institutions.
St Francis Museum -Art Gallery – Via Basilicius: It is located inside the cloister of St. Francis church, which was built in 1361 by Comacini Master Craftsmen. It contains an important collection of frescoes and paintings.
Basilica of Saint Marinus: Built in the early 19th century on the foundations of the existing Romanesque church. It contains valuable statues and paintings. Free admission.
Third Tower (Montale): Third fortress. Lookout tower. Despite only being open to the outside, it offers a beautiful view.
National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art: Headquartered at the Logge dei Volontari (Volunteers` Loggias), a wanderful building erected in the 1930s, this Gallery hosts over 1000 works by some of the most renowed artists of the 20th century, from Guttuso to Vedova, from Chia to Gucchi.
In San Marino, you will be charged a tourist visa of € 5.

The museums are closed in the following days: 1 January, 2 November (afternoon), 25 December.
What else can you do in San Marino? Shopping! The showcases are so seductive and the bags of famous fashion houses shine temptingly in this romantic atmosphere of medieval streets. In San Marino, prices do not include VAT. Sounds great, does not it? In addition, you will find very cheap perfumes made in Italy.
